Dullus

Spring ahead indeed. No postings for weeks again here. Sheesh. Part of me doesn’t have anything to say and yet I can still blather on about practically any topic at a dinner party. Time for a little more blog discipline.

Spent a few days in Dallas this week on business… and it was nice to be in the states again, but I must admit to not being all that impressed with the city. That was tempered with the success of the meeting, which went well. Now if I could get a meeting set up for Austin, well there is another kettle of fish I am sure.

The Great Cheesesteak Off of 2005

About a year ago I drove home myself to see the folks. It was a soul satisfying trip, just when I really needed one. Part of the fun was taking a day trip to Philadelphia (aka "Philly" for our international visitors) to sample the wares of the cities' purveyors of it's namesake sandwich, the "Philly Cheesesteak."

We made a point of not eating breakfast. Why would you when your goal for the day was to eat two heavy meals at the same time for lunch?

The sunny morning drive to Philadelphia was littered with visual memory landmines from my youth. It is about two hours from my hometown to the center city and for most of that time I really savored the view from the road, noting where development had taken place and also where neglect and abandonment left a place mark.

Time for cheesesteak eating; at two of the most famous stands are just yards apart; Pat's and Geno's. And you are so not worthy...

Savory beef, caramelized onions and cheese... melting in the perfectly fresh, soft but just right crusty roll. The greatest cities in the world have dishes named for them, and Philadelphia is a good example.
