November Walk

november_walk.jpg

Back at work after a little time off... just chilling with the canine and the significant other seen here on one of our walks last week. Some leafs were kicked and the gray skies began to portend the oncoming winter weather.

And for some reason, maybe just the simple happenstance of the change of seasons, I am happier than I have been all year.

Vacation

sailing_11.5.04.jpg

Sailing off... to a place that isn't planned.

How can I be buoyed by feeling melancholic? That would be like losing weight by eating chocolates all day. Sadness these days makes me feel cleansed; purging the built up tufts of irrational fears and insecurities that linger in the psyche.

And so this week I can say I "grew up" a bit more. Funny how even at this age that still applies.

I guess we never really fully grow up... we all just run out of time.

Smokestacks

Mark calls this power plant down on the Lake as "the Titanic", and you can see why...

When does my flight leave?

two_paws.jpg

Another shot of friendly hounds and hands... to end a week that managed to include one fender bender too many. Literally.

Somewhere there must be a resort where I should be flying to this evening...

Leaves and Votes

leaves_10.31.04.jpg

Cold wet rain brought down all the leaves in our neighborhood this week. They landed like votes being tallied up for an election...

After making the effort to participate via absentee ballot, I found myself on the morning after the US presidential election feeling more and more like an ex-patriot. What has really happened since I left?

Well... when I left New York the twin towers were still standing, but now the city has been changed irrevocably. When I left the states Clinton was in office and elections that turned on "moral values" were more of an ideological concept than a chilling and profound reality. When I moved to Canada, my new home's politics seemed a musty parliamentary confusion, resistant to understanding and participation.

Next August I can advance my immigration status and become a citizen of Canada who can vote... and now I know I will.

Welcome home to me.
