heart on your sleeve is very similiar to open book. but neither of them really means that much unless it is chosen by someone who really does use a decent sized vocabulary.

my problem is i didn't hear it as a good thing, more like a flaw.

i read "open book" as the opposite of cagey or duplicitous. A Good thing, in the karmic sense, although being the former may leave you vulnerable to the latter from time to time.
